Getting Noticed
Getting interviews starts long before you apply. Here's how to make sure the right people can find you and see your value.
Getting Found
It's important for employers and recruiters to FIND you and you have very few opportunities to build credibility. Resumes are critical, yes. You also need to work on your online presence because companies are using lots of tools to find the right people. Think about it — employers and recruiters are inundated with candidates, and they are looking for the highest quality candidates.
- •Improve your online presence: Thought leadership content, engagement with other content, getting interviewed, and more will elevate your online presence because you are standing out.
- •Avoid blending in: Go beyond using only the most popular job boards like LinkedIn. Give yourself more exposure by going beyond the standard platforms to find your next opportunity.
Positioning Yourself
You must know how to position yourself as a job candidate to increase odds of landing an interview. It is important to avoid gaps in employment or commitments — even if you are between jobs, a great way to bridge gaps in employment is to have some form of current work experience.
- •Having a network carries more weight than you think — leverage LinkedIn and social media to build connections and engage with your network's content.
- •Start a business or find ways to continue working: create an LLC (easier than you think, creates credibility and shows initiative), provide consulting or other services (mentorship, freelance).
- •Create or build on your online presence: LinkedIn profile, social media content, personal website.
