Answers to common questions about using Job Robin.
1. Getting Started
What is Job Robin?
Job Robin is an AI-powered career development platform designed to accelerate a professional's ability to take control of their careers.
Whether looking for your next job, preparing for interviews, pursuing a promotion, changing careers, or simply investing in your professional growth, Job Robin provides practical tools to help you present your experience with confidence.
Instead of relying on generic templates or one-size-fits-all advice, we help you create personalized content and prepare for the opportunities that matter most to you. Our platform brings together resume and cover letter creation, Career Story development, interview preparation, communication coaching, job tracking, career exploration, and other career-focused resources into one place.
Our goal is simple: help you communicate your value clearly so you're never overlooked because you struggled to explain your experience.
Why should I use Job Robin instead of using ChatGPT directly?
Large language models (LLMs) are very powerful, and they also require you to know what to ask and how to evaluate the responses.
Job Robin is built specifically for career development. Rather than starting from a blank prompt every time, our platform understands the context of your career, stores information you've already provided, and connects multiple tools together to create a more personalized experience. For example, your Career Story can be used to improve resumes, generate cover letters, prepare interview responses, personalize coaching, and provide more relevant career recommendations.
Instead of learning how to prompt an AI model, Job Robin gives you a guided experience built around achieving career outcomes. That's much more effective than one-off use of ChatGPT.
How can people excel in their career with the help of Job Robin?
Career success doesn't happen because of a single great interview or resume. It happens through preparation, continuous learning, and the ability to clearly communicate the value you bring. Job Robin helps you strengthen each of those areas.
Not to mention - your career is constantly evolving. Job Robin is designed to evolve with you.
Whether you're applying for a new position, preparing for an important meeting, networking with other professionals, interviewing for a promotion, or exploring an entirely new career path, our tools are designed to help you prepare with confidence.
Ways Job Robin can support your career include:
- Building resumes and cover letters tailored to specific opportunities.
- Developing a compelling Career Story that clearly explains your professional journey.
- Practicing for interviews through personalized coaching and mock interviews.
- Improving communication so you can answer questions with clarity and confidence.
- Exploring alternative career paths based on your transferable skills.
- Organizing your job search with an integrated Job Tracker.
- Continuing to develop professionally through our free Resources library.
Can Job Robin help me get a promotion?
Yep - it sure can.
Many of the same skills that help someone earn a new job also help them earn a promotion within their current organization. Preparing for promotion often means being able to clearly explain the impact you've made, communicate your accomplishments, demonstrate leadership, and confidently discuss your future goals.
Job Robin can help you there as well:
- Organize and articulate your accomplishments
- Develop stronger communication for promotion discussions
- Prepare for internal interviews
- Practice answering difficult leadership questions
- Strengthen your professional brand
- Identify examples that demonstrate measurable impact
No platform can guarantee a promotion, though Job Robin helps you present your experience in the strongest possible way so you're prepared when opportunities arise.
Can Job Robin find the best career for me?
Job Robin can help you discover career possibilities, but it won't decide your future for you.
Many professionals underestimate how transferable their skills really are. Experience gained in one industry often translates well into completely different roles or industries.
Job Robin helps identify:
- Transferable skills
- Related job titles
- Adjacent industries
- Alternative career paths
- Opportunities that align with your interests and experience
We'll help you explore options you may not have considered, widening the range of career options while giving you more confidence as you decide what direction is right for you.
Can Job Robin help me find a job?
Yes, and in a different way than a traditional job board.
Job Robin focuses on helping you become a stronger candidate. We help you prepare by creating better resumes and cover letters, improving your interview skills, developing your Career Story, organizing your job search, and helping you understand how your experience aligns with specific opportunities. Rather than replacing your job search, Job Robin helps you maximize every opportunity you pursue.
You remain in control of where and when you apply while we help you put your best foot forward throughout the process.
Can I search for jobs outside North America?
Yes!
Go to My Dashboard > My Jobs > Bring Your Own Job and paste any English-translated job description to launch a Flight Plan. Our platform includes companies with international job openings, and through Bring Your Own Job you can take advantage of the Flight Plan's features no matter where the job is located.
Hiring Radar is actively being developed and tested to eventually surface job listings exclusive to other countries. Today, the Radar's job listings focus on North America.
Whether you're looking for a local opportunity or planning to relocate, Job Robin helps you organize your search in one place.
What can I access for free?
We believe everyone should have access to quality career advice. That's why our Resources section is available to every visitor - no account required.
Inside the Resources library, you'll find practical information on topics such as:
- Interview preparation
- Resume best practices
- Career development
- LinkedIn optimization
- Networking
- Career transitions
- Professional communication
- And much more
If you're looking for personalized tools like resume generation, Career Stories, interview coaching, or job tracking, those are available as a subscriber.
Whether you're exploring your options or actively searching for your next opportunity, there's valuable information available to help you move forward.
Why don't you automatically apply for jobs on my behalf?
Our goal isn't spray-and-pray (sending out as many applications as possible as fast as possible); it's to help you submit stronger applications to the opportunities that matter most.
We may offer auto-apply in a future release. For now, we intentionally chose not to include automatic job applications today. This is for two important reasons:
First, we believe applying for a job should be an intentional decision. Taking a moment to review each opportunity helps ensure it's a role you're genuinely interested in and gives you the chance to tailor your application before submitting it.
Second, manually applying makes it much easier to keep your Job Tracker accurate and organized. You'll always know where you've applied, what stage each opportunity is in, and what follow-up actions you need to take.
2. Career Growth & Coaching
Do I have to complete a Career Story to take advantage of the other tools?
Nope.
That said, the other tools produce significantly better results when they have your Career Story to reference. Your Career Story becomes the foundation for many of Job Robin's features. It gives the platform context about your background, accomplishments, strengths, goals, and the value you bring, allowing other tools to create more personalized recommendations and content.
While you can certainly use many of our tools without completing your Career Story, we highly recommend taking the time to do so. It's one of the best ways to improve the quality of your resumes, cover letters, interview preparation, coaching, and other personalized guidance.
Think of it as investing a little time upfront to get much stronger results throughout the rest of the platform.
What coaching does Job Robin offer?
Our objective is simple: help you become more confident every time you communicate your professional value.
Job Robin provides AI-powered coaching throughout your career journey - not just during interviews.
As a subscriber, coaching will include:
- Building your Career Story
- Resume improvement and optimization
- Personalized cover letter creation
- Job Description Decoder recommendations
- Interview preparation
- Communication coaching
- Mock interviews with personalized feedback
- Conversation preparation
- Career path exploration
- Professional development guidance
Rather than giving generic advice, our coaching is personalized using the information you've provided about your background, goals, and experience.
Can Job Robin help me during the early days in a new role?
Absolutely.
Landing the job is only the beginning of your career journey.
Your first few months in a new role are often when you establish your reputation, build relationships, and demonstrate your value. Job Robin can help you prepare for that transition by supporting activities such as:
- Planning your first 30-, 60-, and 90-day goals
- Preparing for one-on-one meetings with your manager
- Organizing priorities and milestones
- Improving communication with coworkers and leadership
- Preparing for presentations or important conversations
- Building confidence as you settle into your new role
As a subscriber, you can always come back to the coaching hub and other tools to help you.
So whether you're starting your first professional position or joining an executive leadership team, thoughtful preparation can make a lasting impression. And we can help.
Can Job Robin help me get promoted?
Yep, it sure can.
Many professionals spend years doing excellent work, yet struggle to communicate the value they've created.
Job Robin helps you prepare for promotion opportunities by helping you:
- Document accomplishments throughout the year
- Highlight measurable business impact
- Prepare examples that demonstrate leadership and initiative
- Practice answering promotion or internal interview questions
- Strengthen communication during performance reviews
- Build confidence when discussing your contributions
While promotions are ultimately determined by your employer, being able to clearly explain your achievements often makes a meaningful difference.
Can Job Robin help me negotiate a job offer?
Not today, but it's something we're considering for a future release.
Offer negotiation involves more than salary. It may include bonuses, equity, paid time off, flexible work arrangements, professional development opportunities, relocation assistance, and other benefits.
As Job Robin evolves, we'd like to help professionals better understand their options and prepare for those conversations.
In the meantime, our Resources section includes articles and guidance to help you approach compensation discussions with confidence.
Do I get to speak with an actual person for coaching or interview preparation?
Not at this time.
Job Robin currently provides AI-powered coaching that is available whenever you need it.
One advantage of AI coaching is that you can practice as often as you'd like, receive immediate feedback, and improve at your own pace without needing to schedule appointments.
As the platform continues to evolve, we may introduce additional coaching options in the future.
Can Job Robin help me change careers?
Absolutely.
Changing careers can feel overwhelming, especially if you're unsure how your experience applies to a different industry.
Good news - most professionals have far more transferable skills than they realize.
Job Robin helps you:
- Identify transferable skills
- Explore related roles and industries
- Reframe your experience for a different audience
- Tailor your resume toward a new career direction
- Build confidence explaining your career transition during interviews
- Discover opportunities that align with your strengths and interests
Changing careers isn't about starting over - it's about building on the experience you've already earned.
How can I explore different careers?
Many people focus only on job titles they've already held.
Sometimes the right opportunity isn't the one you were originally searching for.
Job Robin encourages you to think more broadly.
Our "Roles Worth Exploring" section analyzes your background to help identify:
- Related job titles
- Adjacent industries
- Transferable skills
- Alternative career paths
- Opportunities that align with your interests and experience
By exploring adjacent careers, you may discover positions that offer better growth, compensation, work-life balance, or long-term satisfaction. In general, you can reach more job opportunities!
Can Job Robin help me find career advice?
Yes.
Our Resources library contains a growing collection of practical career guidance available to every visitor - no subscription required.
Topics include:
- Resume writing
- Interview preparation
- Career transitions
- LinkedIn optimization
- Networking
- Professional communication
- Salary discussions
- Job search strategies
- Career development
- Leadership skills
Our goal is to provide practical advice you can immediately apply, whether you're actively job searching or simply investing in your long-term career.
How personalized is Job Robin's coaching?
The more information you provide, the more personalized your experience becomes.
Many of our coaching tools use information you've already entered - such as your Career Story, work history, accomplishments, strengths, target role, and preferences - to generate guidance that's specific to you rather than generic career advice.
That's one of the biggest advantages of using Job Robin as an integrated platform. The tools work together to build context over time, helping provide recommendations that become increasingly relevant as you continue using the platform.
Is Job Robin only for people who are actively looking for a job?
Not at all.
While many people discover Job Robin during a job search, the platform is designed to support professionals throughout their entire career.
You might use Job Robin to:
- Prepare for an annual review
- Build a stronger LinkedIn profile
- Practice presentations
- Prepare for networking events
- Explore future career options
- Prepare for leadership opportunities
- Organize accomplishments throughout the year
- Develop stronger communication skills
Career development doesn't begin when you lose a job or decide to look for a new one. It's something you can invest in throughout your career, and Job Robin is designed to grow with you.
Do I need AI experience to use Job Robin?
Not at all. Job Robin is designed for professionals at every level of technical experience. Simply answer questions about your background, choose your goals, and we'll guide you through the rest.
3. Resumes, Cover Letters & Career Story
Why is the Career Story so important?
Your Career Story is one of the most valuable pieces of information you can create inside Job Robin.
Unlike a resume, which lists your experience, a Career Story explains who you are professionally, what you've accomplished, what motivates you, and the value you consistently bring to organizations. It becomes the foundation for many of the platform's tools because it provides context that helps personalize recommendations and generated content.
A strong Career Story can help you:
- Introduce yourself with confidence
- Network more effectively
- Prepare for interviews
- Create stronger resumes and cover letters
- Communicate your professional value consistently
- Build your personal brand
Rather than repeating your resume, your Career Story helps people understand the person behind the experience.
Can I update my Career Story later?
Absolutely.
Your career will continue to evolve, and your Career Story should evolve with it. You can revisit your Career Story whenever you've achieved something significant, accepted a new role, developed new skills, or simply want to refine how you describe your professional journey.
We actually encourage reviewing it periodically to ensure it continues to reflect where you are today and where you want to go next.
Do I have to rewrite my Career Story every time I apply for a job?
Nope - not necessary.
Your Career Story is intended to be a living document that represents your overall professional identity. While you may occasionally adjust parts of it for a specific opportunity or audience, you generally won't need to start from scratch each time.
Instead, other Job Robin tools use your Career Story as a foundation and tailor resumes, cover letters, and interview preparation to fit each opportunity.
How are resumes generated on Job Robin?
Every resume is generated using multiple pieces of information, including:
- Your Career Story
- Your work history
- Skills and accomplishments you've provided
- The position you're targeting
- The job description, when available
- Your selected preferences
Rather than filling in a generic template, Job Robin combines this information to create an ATS-friendly resume tailored to your experience and career goals.
Because every person's background is different, every resume is unique.
Why should I tailor my resume for each job?
No two job opportunities are exactly alike.
Even positions with the same title often emphasize different responsibilities, priorities, or technical skills. Tailoring your resume helps demonstrate that your experience aligns with the specific role you're pursuing.
Job Robin makes this process much easier by helping you analyze job descriptions, identify relevant experience, and generate resumes that better reflect what employers are looking for - without misrepresenting your qualifications.
Are Job Robin resumes ATS-friendly?
Yes.
Our resumes are designed with Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) in mind. That means we focus on clean formatting, logical organization, relevant keywords, and professional presentation that can be read by both recruiters and ATS software.
While no resume can guarantee an interview, following ATS best practices helps ensure your experience can be properly evaluated.
Can I edit my generated resume?
Absolutely.
Every resume generated by Job Robin belongs to you. We encourage reviewing your resume before submitting it and making any adjustments you'd like.
You know your experience better than anyone else, and small edits can help ensure the final document reflects your voice and priorities.
Think of Job Robin as a starting point - not a replacement for your professional judgment.
Does Job Robin offer resume examples?
Not at this time.
Rather than providing generic resume examples, Job Robin focuses on creating resumes tailored specifically to your own background and career goals.
We believe personalized content is significantly more valuable than asking users to adapt someone else's resume to fit their own experience.
Can I choose the resume template used to create my resume?
Not today within Job Robin, however you can apply what we provide to your own template outside of this platform if desired.
Our current focus is producing resumes that are optimized for Applicant Tracking Systems and easy for recruiters to review.
As the platform evolves, we plan to introduce additional professionally designed templates that allow you to choose different visual styles while maintaining ATS compatibility.
How are cover letters generated?
Your cover letter is generated using information such as:
- Your Career Story
- Your resume
- The job description
- The company you're applying to
- The role you're pursuing
- Your accomplishments and experience
The result is a personalized cover letter that explains why you're interested in the position and how your background aligns with the employer's needs.
Our goal is to create a letter that feels authentic - not like a generic template.
Should I submit a cover letter if one isn't required?
In many cases, yes.
A thoughtful cover letter can help differentiate you from other candidates by providing context that doesn't always fit naturally on a resume. It also demonstrates additional effort and genuine interest in the opportunity.
That said, every application is different. If an employer specifically requests that applicants not submit a cover letter, you should follow their instructions.
Can I edit my generated cover letter?
Absolutely.
Like your resume, your cover letter belongs to you. You're encouraged to review, edit, and personalize it before submitting your application.
Adding a few details about the company, the hiring manager, or why the opportunity excites you can make an already strong cover letter even more compelling.
Do you support multiple languages for resumes and cover letters?
Not at this time.
Today, Job Robin's resume and cover letter generation is optimized for English.
Support for additional languages is in progress given the interest we've had from users.
Can I create multiple versions of my resume?
Yes.
Many professionals pursue different types of opportunities or tailor their resumes for different industries. Creating multiple resume versions allows you to emphasize different skills, accomplishments, or experiences depending on the position you're targeting.
Job Robin makes it easier to maintain those variations without having to rebuild your resume from scratch each time.
Should I tell employers I used AI to create my resume or cover letter?
That's entirely your decision.
Job Robin uses AI to help you organize, improve, and communicate your own professional experience - it doesn't invent your accomplishments or apply for jobs on your behalf. Every document should be reviewed and approved by you before submission.
Ultimately, the finished resume or cover letter reflects your experience, your achievements, and your professional story, presented in a clearer and more effective way.
4. Job Search & Job Tracker
Can I save jobs from other job boards and track them as well?
Yes.
Your Flight Plan Hub is designed to be your central hub for managing your job search, regardless of where you found the opportunity. Whether you discovered a position through LinkedIn, Indeed, a company website, a recruiter, or another job board, you can save it to your Flight Plan Hub and keep everything organized in one place.
Having all of your opportunities together makes it easier to monitor your progress, prepare for interviews, and avoid losing track of important applications.
Can I edit job details in the Job Tracker?
Absolutely.
Your Job Tracker is available for every Decoded role in your Flight Plan hub and is designed to evolve as your job search progresses. You can update information such as:
- Application status
- Application dates
- Interview dates
- Interview rounds
- Notes
- Feedback received
Keeping your information current helps you stay organized throughout your search.
Can I leave notes in the Job Tracker?
Yes.
Every opportunity includes space for your own notes so you can keep important information in one place. To date, many users use notes to record:
- Interview feedback
- Recruiter contact information
- Questions to ask during future interviews
- Salary discussions
- Company research
- Follow-up reminders
- Next steps
Having everything attached to the specific opportunity makes preparing for future conversations much easier.
Can I keep track of where I am in the interview process?
Yes.
The Job Tracker is available for each role and is designed to help you organize each opportunity from application through final decision.
As your application progresses, you can update statuses, add interview information, record notes, and track upcoming actions so you always know what's next.
Instead of relying on spreadsheets or sticky notes, everything stays together in one organized location.
Why should I use a role's Job Tracker?
Searching for a new job often means managing dozens of applications at the same time.
Without a system, it's easy to forget where you've applied, miss follow-up opportunities, or lose track of interview dates. Job Robin's job listing-specific tracker helps you:
- Stay organized
- Track every opportunity
- Prepare for interviews
- Record important conversations
- Monitor your progress
- Focus on the opportunities that matter most
Organization won't get you hired, but it can help ensure great opportunities don't slip through the cracks.
Can I use the Job Tracker even if I'm not actively looking for a job?
Yes.
Many professionals use the Job Tracker to monitor each opportunity they're interested in for the future.
Whether you're casually exploring the market, keeping an eye on specific companies, or waiting for the right opportunity, the Job Tracker can help you stay organized until you're ready to apply.
Does Job Robin automatically update the status of my applications?
Not at this time.
You remain in control of your Job Tracker details by updating each opportunity as your search progresses. This helps ensure your information remains accurate and reflects your own hiring experience.
Automatic application tracking is something we may explore in the future.
